Perth Road Runners turned out on a very warm sunny Saturday evening at the end of May to contest the annual Strathallan 5 Mile Road Race, the first of the Club’s Summer Series races.
Michael Wilson set the pace for Perth’s green vests crossing the finish line in a time of 32:15. Less than a minute separated Perth’s top three with James Fotheringham the PRRs runner up in 32:26 and Neil Muir hot on his heels at 33:00. Grant Wooler was in good form at 34:14. Julie Ramsay was Perth’s first lady at 34:49. The next Perth duo achieved sub 40 minute times with Melanie MacRae at just over 38:28 and Kenneth Stewart at 38:54. Amy Greig was next to cross the line for Perth at around 40 minutes. Peter Ritchie put in a fine time of 41:39. Fiona Hair and Susan Smith were neck and neck at 44:35 and 44:49 respectively. The other club finishers were Alan Paterson 50:06, Karen Walters 50:53, Rhona McBean 53:45 and Jean McCullogh and Fiona Morrison finishing together at 60:04.
Three PRRs ventured to Comrie for the third running of the Strathearn Harriers Strathearn Marathon on Sunday 8th June. The route is challenging with about 1500 feet of ascent following predominantly quiet B roads on the south of Strathearn, starting and finishing at the Cultybraggan Camp just outside Comrie. Three excellent Perth performances saw Simon Grieshaber first home for Perth in 3:48:02, followed by Chris Paton in 4:24:15 and Fiona Hair in 4:34:47.
Runners are reminded that the popular Brig Bash 5 Mile Road Race is filling up fast with over 200 entries sold out of a total of 250. The closing date on Entry Central is 25 June, sorry, strictly no entries on the day. The race takes place on Wednesday 2nd July at the Bridge of Earn Institute at 7.30pm. The course is fast and flat with great potential for PBs. The renowned Perth Road Runners post race spread with home baking and free tea and coffee will be on offer to help refuel the runners.
