Perth Road Runners celebrated great success at the Templeton Trail Race in Dundee on Friday night with the first male, first female and first female vet prizes won by our runners. The race, just over 5miles through Templeton Woods, attracted great support with 18 of our members out of the 54 who took part. The race was being held for the first time so we hope to continue the same sort of dominance in the future!
Mike Carroll kept up his great from winning by a good margin in 30mins 52secs. Ewan Taylor was 2nd in 32:14 followed by Kevin Judge in 33:20 in 4th place. Neil Muir ran a great race finishing in 35:07, Derek McIntosh 35:20, Grant Wooler 35:24 and Grant Strachan completing the successive foursome home in 35:31. There were also good times for Alistair Cant 37:28, Simon Grieshaber 38:01, Bill Lawson 41:40, Tom McLevy 45:07, and Bob Thornton in 53:02.
Claire Douglas won her first race in 35:46 followed by Angela Park, 3rd female overall, in 37:38. Fiona Angus was 1st female vet home in 38:31 folllowed by Helen McLeod in 40:07, Rhona McBean 42:32 and Marianne McLevy in 44:25. Fantastic effort guys!
Marianne and Tom McLevy followed this race up by running the Orchill Road Race on Sunday. The race covers 9.75miles of undulating road between Auchterarder and Braco. Marianne and Tom crossed the finishing line together in 1hr 22mins 30secs.
The next race is the Milnathort Dash on Thursday 24th June in the Championship and then it’s the Brig Bash 5mile race on Wednesday 7th July. The race, organised by PRR, is famed for its post-race spread and we would welcome donations of food from members as well as help on the night. Contact Susie Lockett if you can help.

A number of our members tackled one of the most interesting races on the calendar last Friday, The Black Rock 5. The 5 mile race starts in Kinghorn, Fife and heads out across the sands, around the Black Rock on the Firth of Forth and back to Kinghorn again.
Brian Cooper was the first PRR home in 30mins 20secs. Meike Cooper (no relation) was next in 33:27, newly -wed Marianne McLevy finished in 36:47 and Amy Greig in 37:07.
Perth Road Runners 25th Anniversary celebrations are under way with commemorative t-shirts now available, priced £7.05. Photos of the t-shirts, available in green or black are now on the website and the club’s notice board at Bells. Orders can be placed through Colin Campbell .
A running weekend and barbecue is also planned for 21st and 22nd August at Kinloch Rannoch with accommodation available at the outdoor centre. We recommend booking quickly as there are limited spaces available at the outdoor centre. Other accommodation options nearby are also available. The running options planned are 10k, 10miles, ½ marathon and full marathon distance although it should be pointed out that these are relaxed group runs and not races. The cost of accommodation at the outdoor centre is £12.20ppn and should be paid to Steve Ferguson or a Committee member to confirm booking. We would love to see as many of our members come along for some relaxed running and have some fun on this special occasion.
Coming up in the next couple of weeks is the popular Brig Bash 5mile Race. The race is on Wednesday 7th July and while we would like to encourage everyone to run, we also need helpers to act as marshals and cover the water stations. If you can help, please contact Susie Lockett.

Mike Carroll completed a fantastic double winning the Lang Toon 10k last Wednesday and the Strathallan 5mile race on Saturday. His Lang Toon success, with which he also broke the course record, saw him become the 11th PRR winner of the event in its 12 year history.
Claire Douglas finished 1st PRR female and 2nd overall followed by Angela Park, who managed her 2nd personal best in 5 days to finish 3rd female. There were also good performances from Kevin Judge, Neil Muir, Grant Strachan, Grant Wooler, Simon Grieshaber, Bob Brown, Pete Ritchie, Malcolm Saynor, Nicola Crowe, Rhona McBean, Vicky Park, Andrea Finlay, Fiona Hair, Gillian Kerr and Susan Smith. At the time of writing, no official results are available.
The warm weather on Saturday evening made the conditions challenging for everyone at the Strathallan 5m Race. A large number of our members turned out for this local event. Kevin Judge followed Mike Carroll home in 14th in a time of 30mins 55secs. Grant Wooler was 2nd in his age category, finishing in 32:50 closely followed by Grant Strachan in 33:18. Claire Douglas continued her great form as first PRR female home in 33:35; Simon Grieshaber 35:22; Ken Laidlaw 36:09; Helen MacLeod 36:26; Rhona McBean 37:50; Bill Lawson 38:09; Kenneth Stewart 40:28; Bob Thornton 41:11; Elaine Laidlaw 42:12; Anne Wombill 45:55; Elaine Ogg 47:43 and Karen Walters 47:49. Well done everyone!

If you are interested in running and can run 10k, why not come and join us? We would love to see you at our training sessions. We meet every Tuesday at 6.30pm in the foyer of Bells. Happy Running!

It was a case of learning at the school of hard knocks last week for some of our runners at the Knock Hill Race in Crieff. The race, the second in the club’s Summer Series, covers 8km and a climb of 210m. This race is certainly not for the faint hearted with a pretty steep climb that even the best admitted to walking part of it! There was some success for our runners with Mike Carroll winning in a time of 30mins and 58secs and Claire Douglas 3rd female in 36mins 51secs. Ewan Taylor was 5th overall and was followed by Kevin Judge, Grant Strachan, Grant Wooler, and Simon Grieshaber. Andrea Finlay also completed the race but sadly no results or placings are available.
Keri Weatherhogg continued her great form this year by finishing 2nd female in the Stornoway Half Marathon on Saturday. Angela Park ran a superb race to beat her personal best but sadly the full results are as yet unavailable. Fantastic effort girls!
Ken and Elaine Laidlaw achieved the unusual feat of being the first Perth Road Runners home, quite probably the first husband and wife pairing at the club to do this, at the Dunblane Hydro 7.5mile race at the weekend. Ken finished 126th overall in a time of 59mins and 19secs and Elaine 182nd in 1:04:35. The fact that they were the only club members taking part is mere detail!
This week sees the next two races in the Summer Series at Auchterarder and at Strathallan School. Look out for the results next week.
If you feel inspired by our members achievements and can run 10k distance then we would like to welcome you to join the club. Come to our next training session on Tuesday meeting at 6.30pm at Bells.

A number of our runners headed to the capital on Sunday for the Edinburgh Marathon, Half Marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay. The Half Marathon was included for the first time this year in addition to the other races which have increased in popularity due to the fast course and the fun aspect of covering the route as part of a team. The conditions certainly made it tough for the runners with high temperatures despite the heavy rain and dull clouds greeting everyone as they headed to the city.
There was great success for the PRR guys in the Relay. Mike Carroll, Linton Scarorough, Tony Jackson and Ewan Taylor won in a time of 2hrs 37mins and 59 secs. In the marathon, Erni Hamilton was the first PRR home in 3:20:14 followed by Steven Bonthrone in 3:25:02; Kevin Judge 3:33:22; Rhona McBean 3:37:21 – a new personal best! Kenneth Stewart completed the race in 3:49:53 and can still celebrate as he was one of around fifty-five people who were presented with a medal before the start having run all of the 7 previous Edinburgh Marathons. Well done Kenneth and well done everyone else!
Robin and Anne Wombill, meanwhile, took part in the Cape Wrath Marathon in Durness, the most north westerly marathon on the British mainland and also described as the toughest one with a climb of over 2,415ft. Anne and Robin completed the race together in 4hrs 51mins 42secs.
The club are always looking to encourage people who enjoy running to come and join them. If you can run 10k distance then we would like to invite you along to join us on our training runs. We meet at Bells every Tuesday at 6.30pm. We will introduce you to some of our friendly members who run at your pace.

Perth Road Runners took a large contingent to the Loch Leven Half Marathon on Saturday, the biggest club taking part on the day with 35 entrants. The event is quite popular, attracting over 500 participants from all over the country with many clubs including it in their Championship Series.
Windy conditions in between bursts of warm sunshine made it tough going for the runners on the already undulating course but that didn’t stop a number of our runners recording personal bests and similar good performances.
Mike Carroll had to work a bit to finish first in a time of 1hr 8mins 12secs. Greg Simpson followed in 7th in 1:17:01 and Ewan Taylor finished in 17th in 1:21:21. Keri Weatherhogg was 3rd female home in 1:25:42, breaking Erni Hamilton’s 6yr old club record, and Kevin Judge also dipped under the 1:30 mark in 1:29:03. Stephen Johnston finished one of his first races in the famous green vest in 1:31:08.
Grant Strachan shaved almost 3mins off his PB in a time of 1:35:59 just pipping Simon Grieshaber who finished in 1:36:06. Meike Cooper was just behind them in 1:36:34. Colin McCreath finished in 1:37:50, Fiona Angus 1:38:10, Hugh Daly 1:39:00, Nicola Crowe 1:42:05 closely followed by Helen MacLeod in 1:42:35, Kenneth Stewart 1:43:14, Rhona McBean 1:45:03.
Fiona Hair finished 1st in her age category in 1:55:21, Nicola Lessels and heather Yellowley crossed the line together in 1:57:33, Gillian Kerr 2:00:08, Andrea Finlay 2:00:57 and Allison McArthur smashed her PB in 2:01:31. Jean McCullough finished her first race for the club in 2:21:48 and Fiona Morrison did 2:27:47. Well done everyone!
This weekend will see a number of our members head to Edinburgh for the Marathon and also the Hairy Haggis Relay. Happy Running!

A number of our members took part in the Cateran Trail race on Saturday. It is 23 miles of trail running from Blairgowrie to the Spittal of Glenshee via Bridge of Cally and Kirkmichael. It is divided into three sections with 2 runners from each team completing a section. There is also an individual race where athletes run the full 23 miles.
Kenneth Stewart, Pete Ritchie, Robin Wombill and Bob Brown all tackled the full distance although Bob had to pull out after 14 miles due to injury. The club also entered 3 teams into the event with some great results. The Perth Trail Blazers: Grant Wooler, Mike Dales, Steve Ferguson, Grant Keys, Keri Weatherhogg and Kevin Judge were 1st Mixed Team.
The Muddy Maidens: Susie Lockett, Andrea Finlay, Carol Cadger, her daughter Katrina, Fiona Manson and Linda O’Neill were 3rd Senior Ladies. The Tay River Pearls: Jean Wainwright, Dorothy Bates, Karen Walters, Fiona Morrison, Anne Wombill and Elaine Ogg were 2nd Ladies Vet Team. It was a sunny day with a cold northerly wind - ideal conditions for running. Conditions under foot were dry this year so only a few muddy patches to negotiate. As far as I know nobody got lost this year. It's an overall height gain from Blairgowrie to the Spittal so lots of uphill climbs. Everybody gathered at the Spittal to enjoy watching the finishers descend from the hills to the finish line. A good day out made most enjoyable by the weather and the excellent organisation of the race.
If you can run comfortably for an hour then we would like to invite you to join our club. Come along to Perth’s friendly running club every Tuesday at 6.30pm.

The marathon weekends are maybe over for now but a few of our members chose a couple of interesting races to try. On Saturday, four of our runners took part in the annual Edinburgh to North Berwick race. The race is normally 22miles and was restricted to 20miles this year due to traffic management considerations.
On a sunny, yet a bit windy, day saw Erni Hamilton, Rhona McBean, Clare Frulloni and Tom McLevy tackle the distance. Erni was first PRR home in 2hrs 29mins 47secs which also saw her finish as 1st in the over-45’s female category (I’m sure she’ll love me for pointing out her age!). Rhona was next in 2:45:26, 3rd in female over 35’s, Clare did 2:56:38 and Tom did 3:05:50. Well done guys!
Robert MacDonald was the only one of a number of our members at the Edinburgh 10k race on Sunday to run it and finished in 46:50 beating his daughter, who was ahead of him at 5k, in the process. Our other members were there as Race Marshals. In addition to taking part in races, the club support a number of top events by providing marshals to help ensure a well-organised and enjoyable race for the participants. It is a great day out for everyone with the club benefitting from additional funds and the marshals get lunch and a free jacket from the sponsors as well as the opportunity to encourage those taking part.
If you would like to join our friendly club, come down to Bell’s every Tuesday night at 6.30pm and join in our training sessions.
