26.10.07 - PA Report
Represention of Perth Road Runners in overseas races continued this weekend, with Jean Wainwright heading across the North Sea for the Amsterdam Marathon. On a beautiful day, the race wound through city streets and parks, and along the side of the River Amstel. Jean completed the course in a fantastic time of 4:57:28, and particularly recommends the pieces of banana every 5 km.
The Cross Country season got underway this weekend with the first East District League race at Broxburn. A much drier and less muddy course than last year led to faster times all round. Amongst tough competition, David Knight finished strongly in 31:14, followed by the other Perth men: Linton Scarborough (34:34), Mark Cooper (35:10), Steve Ferguson (36:08), Derek Phillips (36:08), Bill Lawson (39:42), Colin Wilson (39:57), Dave Norrie (40:49) and Colin Campbell (44:35). The women’s team, running one lap less than the men, were led home by Fiona Angus (26:43), supported by Joan Wilson (27:32) and Fiona Manson (29:21).
And finally, I must mention David Angus who ran the Aviemore half marathon last weekend in 1:33:58, but was not mentioned in last week’s report.

12.10.07 - PA Report
It was an action packed weekend for the Road Runners with excellent weather at all race venues. At Oban it was the annual half marathon over a new tougher circular course out to the Falls of Lora at Connel Bridge and back. Neil Muir completed the course in 1h 24m 53s to take second place in the male veteran category.
Six members made the journey to Inverness for the massive Loch Ness Marathon with 2000 runners. Bob Brown ran 3h 35m 3s to take second place in the male over 60 category and Susan Lennon ran a terrific 3h 38m 50s. Other finishers were Bernt Cederstrom, Kenneth Stewart, Hugh Daly and Linda O’Neill completing an excellent debut marathon in 4h 23m 15s. Nobody has owned up to having spotted Nessie during the race.
It was the Pitlochry10k, the penultimate round of the 2007 club championship that attracted a veritable hoard of eighteen members sporting the green and white vest. With David Knight coming second and Greg Simpson and Mark Cooper both in the top ten Perth really excelled. Erni Hamilton took third in the female veteran class and Lynne Warden competed in her last race on Scottish soil before a move to Dubai where she be airing the club vest in the half marathon in the New Year.
The club is running a series of three winter ‘time trials’ at the George Duncan Track at the Grammar School. Entry is open to any member of the public, road runner or not, who wants to have a go at running a timed 5k, the equivalent of twice around the North Inch. It will cost you £2 for entry to the track. These events will be at 6:30pm on Thursdays 18th October and 1st and 15th November.

05.10.07 - PA Report
The Ceres 8 mile road race is run, as its name implies, in and around the pretty Fife village of Ceres. This year it was eagerly anticipated as it was the last race in the annual Perth Road Runners Summer Series. The conditions were perfect for running - no wind, overcast and mild. The thirteen Road Runners who made the journey gave a good account of themselves over a hilly course with Susan Lennon, Bob Brown and Jean Wainwright all coming first in their age groups. Derek Phillips, who hasn't run for some time, ran brilliantly to come 12th overall in 50:07. Bill Lawson gave 110% to beat Bernt Cederstrom by just a few metres but this couldn’t alter the final outcome which was that David Norrie took the Summer Series by just one point from Derek McIntosh.
In the ladies race there were only 3 Road Runner's with Summer Series contender Debbie Jackson unfortunately unable to attend due to work commitments. Susan Lennon, despite having the Loch Ness marathon to run on Sunday attempted to break 60 minutes. She managed 60:07 but was rewarded with first place in her age group and first place in the Summer Series. Fiona Morrison saw all this year’s hard work and commitment pay off with a terrific run in her first 8 miler on an ‘undulating’ course.

The race results are:
Derek Phillips 50:07, Derek McIntosh 53:10, Bill Lawson 54:55, Bernt Cederstrom 55:02, David Norrie 55:23, Bob Brown 58:20, Susan Lennon 60:07, Pete Ritchie 60:52, Kenneth Stewart 61:47, Bob Thornton 61:52, Mark Castel 76:30, Fiona Morrison 80:47, Jean Wainwright 84:10

The results for the 2007 Perth Road Runners Summer Series are :
1st Susan Lennon, 2nd Fiona Morrison, 3rd Debbie Jackson
1st David Norrie, 2nd Derek McIntosh, 3rd Bill Lawson

28.09.07 - PA Report
This weekend saw a large number of Perth Road Runners in two popular 10k races, one in Linlithgow and one in the East Neuk of Fife. Good conditions at both races led to some fast times and pleasant running.
The Linlithgow 10k was the seventh race in this year’s championship series – and with the competition hotting up, no-one wanted to miss this race. The large number of Perth runners formed an island of green and white at the start line. Before the start, all the runners were led up the main street to the rousing rhythm of the samba drums. The figure-of-eight course wound out of town, up hill and down dale, before returning through the town centre to complete the second loop – a fast, flat run around Linlithgow Loch with spectacular views of the Palace in the sunshine. First home for Perth was Dave Knight in 33:47, placing 4th overall. He was followed over the line by Greg Simpson (36:11), David Angus (39:50), Bernt Cederstrom (41:23), Grant Wooler (41:29), Bill Lawson (41:30), Dave Norrie (42:43), Pete Ritchie (46:46), Kenneth Stewart (47:47) and Robin Wombill (47:53).
First Perth lady home, and 4th overall, was Fiona Angus (43:59) in top form after this year’s marathon training. Other ladies were: Susan Lennon (46:06), Fiona Manson (48:06), Lynne Warden (48:50), Julie King (50:46), Debbie Jackson (53:31), Gemma Russell (56:18), Elaine Hutcheson (58:34) and Fiona Morrison (60:58).
Meanwhile, over in Anstruther, four Perth Runners tackled the multi-terrain, out-and-back course in the East Neuk 10k. Stephen Ferguson once again brought home the Supervets prize, with a time of 38:06. Neil Muir followed in 38:19, Bob Thornton in 45:25 and Angela Park (47:50).
The Summer Series competition will reach its finale this weekend with the Ceres 8 mile road race.

21.09.07 - PA Report
Perth Road Runners took part in two rain-soaked events at the weekend. Three runners were at the Stirling 10k on Sunday. In a large field of 720 participants, Perth runners were led home by Mark Cooper (37:21), followed by Grant Wooler (43:56) and Joan Wilson (46:09) who was taking a well-deserved break from running up and down hills. Meanwhile, Debbie Jackson headed to the Get Active Loch Lomond Festival to take part in the 10k race organised in support of the St Margaret of Scotland Hospice. Debbie battled round in a very soggy 52:43 minutes. Here's hoping for better conditions at the next Club Championship race on Sunday at Linlithgow.

14.09.07 - Local success for duo in the Great Scottish Run

Last weekend, Bernt Cederstrom and Susan Lennon joined 13,000 other runners at the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.
Over the half-marathon distance Bernt posted a very respectable 1:32:34, with Susan finishing not far behind him in 1:42:15.
On Sunday, two Perth Road Runners made the fery trip to the Isle of Cumbrae for the Round Cumbrae 10 miler.
Running conditions were ideal, but with a strong wind which gave assistance on the first five miles but made the second five hard work.
The stunning views over to Bute and Arran helped to ease the pain in the second half of the race.
The course virtually level as it follows the coastline around the island. This was a good race for fast times. Jennifer Ryles ran a personal best time of 1:35:55, clocking up PBs for the five-mile and 10k distance
Stephen Ferguson won the Super Vets prize (placed 21st overall) in 1:02:21 - his fastest 10 miles.

07.09.07 - Ritchie goes on the run along Peterhead roads
On Sunday 26th August - due to the hopefully temporary absence of the Perth 10K - Peter Ritchie went on his travels to Peterhead whose event usually clashes with the Perth race.
Peter finished in 48 min 49 secs being 20 secs slower than his previous week at the Forfar 10K.
On Sunday 2nd September, four Perth Road Runners travelled to Elgin, three for the Moray Marathon and one for the Moray Half Marathon. This was the 26th consecutive running of the Moray marathon, making it the oldest continuing race of its kind in Scotland.
Conditions on the day were good, the morning being overcast with a light wind which changed almost half way through the marathon to being hot and sunny with a stronger wind.
The course itself was beautiful involving scenic routes through forest areas and along the coastline.
David Norrie posted a fine 3 hours 33.15 minutes, despite his training being, by his own admission, "somewhat patchy".Fiona Angus was not far behind, achieving a magnificent time of 3.39.32 in her debut marathon.
Simon Grieshaber took over 10 minutes off his time from Loch Ness last year to finish in 3.55.31. In the Half Marathon, Jean Wainwright finished in a time of 2.17.13. Well done to all our runners!
The next club race is the Club Handicap on Thursday 13th September.
