Thirteen Perth Road Runners made
the trip to Knockhill motor racing circuit in Fife
for the sixth and penultimate round of their Summer
Series of races.
The annual Graham Clark memorial race took place
in fantastic conditions on one of the nicest evenings
of the year, brilliant sunshine, no wind and not
too hot.
Three tough 1.3 mile laps of the track was the order
of the day. The start at 900feet above sea level
plunged 130feet in the first half mile and then
the rest of the lap was a climb back up to 900feet
before repeating it all again, and again.
Tough as it was the race record of 19:51 was broken
by both race winner Andrew Wright of Cambuslang
19:17 and second place temporary Perth resident
Darren Shinnie 19:40.
First Perth Road Runner home was Greg Simpson in
21:58, with Susan Lennon the first female in 27:34.
Meanwhile there was more action further back with
junior racer Charlie Swan, of Perth Strathtay Harriers,
recording an impressive 35:57 to outrun his pacer
Hugh Daly by three seconds.
Perth finishers were: Greg Simpson 21.58, Derek
McIntosh 23.47, Bernt Cederstrom 24.41, Grant Wooler
25.27, William Lawson 25.29, David Norrie 25.52,
Robert Thornton 26.02, Susan Lennon 27.34, Peter

The Road Runners have been out
and about again. The Fife Athletic Club organised
Balmullo Trail Race was run in perfect conditions
and saw a rapidly improving Bob Thornton, on his
return to form following a long spell of injury,
finishing in 57th place in 39:36. Immediately behind
him, despite being hampered by cramp in his left
thigh was Dave Norrie in 58th and 39:40. There were
100 finishers.
The Forfar 10k had 5 Road Runners competing. The
race which starts by Forfar football ground goes
through the town centre and then follows a large
loop out into the country onto almost traffic free
roads to finish back at the football ground. There
were 216 finishers and Bill Lawson came 46th with
42:31, other finishers for Perth were Grant Wooler
in 43:17, Bob Brown in 45:26, Pete Ritchie in 48:27

| In a busy week for the Road Runners
members have taken part in a variety of events and
brought home some silverware. The first event was
their annual duathlon at Pitcairngreen, consisting
of a 4.2 mile run followed by a 12.4 mile cycle.
The perfect conditions led to some extremely
fast times, with both the men's and women's records
being broken. Mark Cooper was first home with
a time of 60:07, followed by David Angus (68:26).
Erni Hamilton was first lady home, beating her
own course record, with a time of 68:34. Other
times were: Steven Ferguson (72:55), Phil Durrell
(78:51), Bob Thornton (80:30), Fiona Manson (80:31),
Alastair Bulcraig (82:15), Kirsty Maguire (83:42),
Debbie Jackson (84:48), Zoe Kemp (87:22), Lynne
Warden (88:39), Jean Wainwright (70:35 one lap),
Fiona Morrison (73:00 one lap), Grant Wooler (30:17
run only), Kenneth Stewart (32:46 run only).
Saturday saw David Norrie attack the 7 mile Largo
Law multi terrain hill race and despite four wasp
stings manage 64m 15secs.
Sunday saw a split offensive with three members
making the trip abroad for the Mull Half Marathon!
In fine conditions and spectacular scenery Veronica
Muir won the 10k walk while husband Neil was 5th
overall and second male veteran in a very respectable
82.14 (the fastest Perth Vets 1/2 time this season)
with fellow member Steve Ferguson coming in 8th
place in 84:56 and taking first male over 50 prize.
The athletes put their fast times down to Cal
Mac's bacon rolls and the midges - they forgot
their insect repellant so had to keep moving fast
to outrun them.
Meanwhile, also on Sunday, 13 members made the
comparatively short trip to North Queensferry
for the Forth Bridge 10k a road runners championship
race. The horrible weather brightened up 10 minutes
before the start of the race and it was run in
beautiful conditions. It’s a tough course
that takes in the Forth Bridge in both directions
but runners are rewarded with stunning views of
the bridges and the river.
The club was led home by an in-form Bill Lawson
who took advantage in his season long battle with
David Norrie who was running his second race in
24 hours. Fiona Angus set herself a new personal
best for 10k and won second female veteran prize.
The weather lasted long enough, post race, for
the runners to enjoy an impromptu picnic of champagne
and chocolates to celebrate Elaine MacLennan’s
birthday. The race times were : Bill Lawson 42.52,
Bernt Cederstrom 43.31, Fiona Angus 43.38 Davie
Norrie 45.09, Susan Lennon 47.00, Robin Wombill
47.45, Fiona Manson 47.56, Elaine MacLennan 50.27,
Julie King 50.38, Debbie Jackson 52.45, Elaine
Hutcheson 60.12, Jean Wainwright 61.31, Fiona
Morrison 63.07

| Last Sunday, nineteen Perth Road
Runners made the most of the best day of the summer
so far, with an outing to Crieff for the annual
10k race. Conditions were glorious and the initial
hard work uphill from the start was rewarded with
spectacular views across the Ochils. The woodlands
provided some much-appreciated shade, and the race
finished up with a pleasant run for home along the
side of the river. Many thanks to Crieff and the
Strathearn Harriers for putting on such a great
race.
First home for Perth Road Runners was Derek McIntosh
in 41:14, followed by Bernt Cederstrom (44.44)
and Dave Norrie (46.27). Perth’s women successfully
defended last year’s title, taking out the
women’s team prize once again, the first
three home for the club being Susan Lennon (49.37),
Fiona Manson (52.55) and Debbie Jackson (54.57).
Other times: Grant Wooler (48.12), Bob Brown
(48.59), Kenneth Stewart (51.12), Hugh Daly (51.26),
