More than 8,000 runners flocked to the Scottish Capital on 26th May as the largest running event in Scotland, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, took place in the Capital City. On a perfect day for racing, Perth Road Runners tested their marathon training legs on the fast flat marathon course. Starting in the City Centre and finishing in Musselburgh, this marathon is fast becoming one of the most popular in the UK.

Perth’s number 1 and 2 finishers crossed the line just over a minute apart with superb sub 3 hour times of 02:57:02 for Stewart Robertson and 02:58:18 for Duncan Ryan, the latter’s second best ever marathon time. Brian Cooper completed Perth’s Top 3 in a fantastic 03:10:51 while James Fotheringham’s excellent 03:16:09 earned him a PB for the marathon distance. Barry Campbell was the next Perth man home in 03:37:34 shaving a remarkable 25 minutes off his London marathon time a month ago. Julie Ramsay, Perth’s solo female marathon participant, achieved a superb sub 03:45 time of 03:40:01 followed by Mark Leach’s excellent 03:44:00. The next three green vests crossed the line strongly within three minutes of each other with Michael Wilson in 04:00:14, Hugh Daly in 04:00:29 and Bob Brown in 04:03:30.

A week after completing the hilly Windermere marathon last weekend, Kenneth Stewart put in an impressive 04:07:51 to complete all 12 Edinburgh marathons, retaining his place in the prestigious AYE (All Years Edinburgh) Club. David Wood celebrated his 60th birthday year finishing the race in a sub 04.30 time of 04:29:08 while Alan Paterson paced himself impressively to complete his first marathon crossing the line strongly in 05:55:28.
